Card-using tips
  • Nearly 30,000 ATMs of Itaú Bank (the largest private bank in Brazil) and Citibank accept UnionPay cards. The ATMs of Itaú Bank provide interfaces in Chinese and English. Please pay attention to the signage of Itaú Bank and Citibank.

    In the three beach districts most frequented by foreign tourists in Rio de Janeiro, there are more than 20 Itaú Bank ATMs in each district and a total of over 300 ATMs in all. So it is very convenient to withdraw cash. Each card can withdraw a maximum of RMB10,000 per day, and the local ATM has a cap of BRC750 for each withdrawal.

  • In Brazil, most merchants use more than one POS terminals. Generally speaking, all the merchants that use REDE POS terminals accept UnionPay cards. Please pay attention to REDE POS terminals.

  • The cashiers will ask if you are using Debit or Credit card. No matter what card you are using, please tell them it’s a “Credit” card. No currency conversion fee is charged for using UnionPay cards overseas.

  • 60% of restaurants in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro accept UnionPay cards. It is strongly recommended to pay with UnionPay cards for local cuisines, especially the world-famous Brazilian Churrasco.
